Digital Storytelling for Community Empowerment at Cal Poly and Beyond

This proposal focuses on digital storytelling. Its aim is to foster engaged, cross-disciplinary collaboration among three Cal Poly Science, Technology and Society (STS) faculty, while enhancing hands-on Learn-By-Doing activities for their students.

Concretely, it proposes to take film footage centered upon individuals’ lived experience vis-à-vis climate change onlocation in the Pacific Islands. This footage will subsequently be used within various Cal Poly courses to promote cross-disciplinary, hands-on learning and technology-enabled creative expression and to engage students in methodological questions of power, representation, authority, and community empowerment through digital storytelling.
