SLO International Film Festival
CET worked with Journeyman, Intl., and ConsciousBuild, to host a reception, screening and panel discussion of “If You Build It” for the 2014 San Luis Obispo International Film Festival. Journeyman and ConsciousBuild are locally organized organizations that support the practice of socially responsible design practices both locally and globally.
The film follows two architects who started a program in Bertie, NC, to reimagine the intersection of public education, community, and design by integrating basic construction and design skills into yearlong community projects. “If You Build It” is at the heart of what Cal Poly promotes – hands-on, interdisciplinary learning that engages with real world problems.
The panel discussion explored ideas of socially responsible design as well as how education can transform students, teachers and communities – and in doing so reshape how we think about what it means to solve complex, inter-related problems.
